Mr. José F. Reyes-Santana graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree (with Honors and a minor in Computer Engineering) from Georgia Tech in 1982. He started his career in Silicon Valley working for FMC Corporation in military R&D with voice controlled autonomous armored combat vehicles, funded by the company’s own R&D budget in response to a DARPA request for proposals. (Sound familiar? AI was called “Expert Systems” back then.)

After returning to Puerto Rico he founded a software startup (Digital Solutions Corp.), managed IT for a pharma packaging manufacturer for two decades, and has since worked for a local MSP, two software startups and a big IT government contractor. Currently he works as a Sr. System Analyst in big pharma and spends a lot of spare time on Pepa. He provides independent consulting and software development services to clients in diverse industries as PR Software Services LLC.

He published the multimedia tour “Puerto Rico en CD-ROM Vol.1 San Juan” in 1995 and wrote/directed/produced two short films for local film festivals (CineFiesta 2006/2009), and sold a (still unproduced) movie script about 1897 Puerto Rico rebels. He’s also a former marine aquarium maintainer (and contributor to reef-pi) itching to apply AI to nanotanks. He owns a Puerto Rican cuatro that seldom gets played, and the piano lessons are long forgotten. Same with tennis. And then there’s his dog Lola, after whom the Pepa operational pattern is named: she sleeps most of the day, a distraction (request) gets her to wake and bark (inference), and then back to sleep.
